2022 Day of the Dead celebration

People in Mexico and other Latin American nations have been commemorating the Day of the Dead, or Da de Muertos, for the past two days in order to pay respect to deceased family members and acknowledge death as a natural part of life. The parades include depictions of La Catrina, terrifying skeletons, and other symbols of the afterlife. These pictures were gathered from Mexico, Peru, the United States, and other places.

On the Day of the Dead, when thousands of Peruvians visit their deceased loved ones, Peruvian authorities have restored a custom that was put on hold during the coronavirus pandemic by granting unfettered access to cemeteries.

  • As part of the preparations for Day of the Dead in Mexico on October 29, 2022, an 18-meter-tall Catrina sculpture will be placed in the streets of the town of Zapotlanejo during the Festival de los Altares.

  • On November 1, 2022, in Atzompa, Mexico, a traditional Da de Muertos offering is erected in the cemetery.
