Shanquella Robinson passed away in Mexico for an unknown reason. The FBI is now looking into this.
The strange death of a North Carolina lady who traveled to Mexico for a vacation late last month with pals and came home in a bodybag has been the subject of separate investigations launched this week by the FBI and Mexican prosecutors.
On October 28, Shanquella Robinson, a 25-year-old from Charlotte, embarked on a trip with six friends to the Mexican vacation town of San Jose del Cabo.
commemorate a birthday of one of them. She was discovered dead less than 24 hours later.
Robinson's family only wants explanations three weeks later. They believe that so far, the authorities have just given them the runaround and that her friends have told them various accounts of what happened that caused her death.
She wasn't feeling well, they claimed. Sallamondra Robinson, Robinson's mother, recalled an anxious call she received from one of her daughter's friends, and stated to WSOC-TV last week that her daughter had alcohol poisoning. They were unable to find a pulse. Everyone who was with her at the time told her various tales.
Sallamondra never had it all together. On Friday night, she had just finished speaking with her daughter before she joined the group for dinner. She was no longer alive a few hours later.
Sallamondra told ABC News, "She said, 'Well, mum, I'm getting ready to eat. "I replied, "OK, fine. Take pleasure. Enjoy your time. And I'll talk to you tomorrow because I love you."
Robinson's family was unaware that he had a fractured neck and a damaged spine until Sallamondra obtained an autopsy report from the Mexican Secretariat of Health. Alcohol was not mentioned in the report. Robinson's death was listed as being caused by a "severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation" on a death certificate that Queens City News was able to get. This means that her first vertebra had become loose or detached from the base of her skull. The study stated that it was established that there was a 15-minute window between injuries and death. A maid discovered Robinson unconscious in a villa's living room, according to the certificate.
Sallamondra told the newspaper, "I probably won't feel at ease until someone's arrested.
On cabovillas.com, the party had stayed at a villa property. A company representative told WJZY that the group had requested assistance from the concierge, who then brought in a physician to perform CPR on Robinson. She was declared dead that day at 3 p.m.
The spokesperson issued a statement to Rolling Stone saying, "We are working diligently to determine the facts surrounding this incident, which is currently being investigated as an isolated criminal matter that involved visitors at a private villa located in Los Cabos. When the investigation is finished, local public safety authorities will release more information.
Robinson did not travel with the rest of the group when they arrived home. Robinson's body was delivered to the family after two weeks and $6,000 in transportation costs.
A North Carolina blogger named Gerald Jackson published video footage on Tuesday that he claims depicts Robinson being attacked by a woman. Robinson's mother believes the video was taken on the trip to Cabo because she recognizes the other people in it as being on the trip with Robinson.
According to Jackson, who spoke to the Daily Beast, "someone who was in the room that sent it to an individual family member they are friends with" sent him the video clip.
As Robinson tries to regain her equilibrium in the footage, it appears as though a woman is pummeling her with punches. Robinson is instructed to "At least fight back" by an off-camera voice.
How could they harm my baby in this way? Bernard Robinson, Jackson's father, spoke to the North Carolina Beat website. "They shouldn't have been released; they all deserve to be in jail in Mexico right now."
Quilla Long, Robinson's sister, claimed that when she first learned of her sister's passing, she "dropped to her knees." She referred to the attack's footage as "scary."
There haven't been any arrests thus far. According to Yahoo News, the attorney general's office for North Carolina is not involved in the situation.
On November 19, Robinson's funeral is expected to take place in Charlotte. To assist the family in paying the legal and burial costs, Long set up a GoFundMe page.
Bernard refers to the experience as a "nightmare" and vows to find out exactly what happened to his daughter.
"I can't even fall asleep. Just frustrated, really. Simply said, as a father, my heart hurts. A man who prays, he told WSOC-TV. I'm only looking for the truth since this doesn't add up.
By God's grace, I believe I will discover the truth about this. God won't let us down. It will eventually surface, he assured. "I won't give up. I have every confidence that I will experience mental tranquility.
